The Montjuïc cemetery ( cat. Cementiri de Montjuïc ) is a necropolis in the capital of the autonomous region of Catalonia , Barcelona , located on the mountain of Montjuïc . The cemetery occupies a part of Mount Montjuic (in translation “Jewish mountain” or “Mountain of Jupiter ”) from the side of the sea. The Montjuic cemetery was built in the form of terraces according to the project of the architect Leandro Albared. The cemetery was opened March 17, 1883 after the expansion of the territory of Barcelona and an increase in the number of its inhabitants. The first burial took place here on March 19, 1883. Now in the 56-hectare cemetery there are more than a million burials, a columbarium with about 150,000 places.

At the cemetery, most of the burials were carried out in concrete niches, which represent entire multi-story buildings. Almost all the buildings in the cemetery, crypts, sculptures, monuments and monuments are made in the Gothic style.
Excursions are held at the Montjuic cemetery, but photographing is officially prohibited.
