Victor Emilievich Klassen ( 1877 - 1944 ) - a hydraulic scientist, a prominent economic figure in the first years of Soviet power, professor , founder and first rector of the Moscow Forestry Engineering Institute .

Biography

Born in 1877, a Dutchman by birth. He graduated from the Technological Institute in St. Petersburg , worked at the Putilov plant in the design bureau. He taught hydraulics and applied mechanics at the Polytechnic Institute , received the title of professor. During the First World War, he was a member of the Special Fuel Meeting, which aims to regulate the supply of fuel to railways and defense rear enterprises.

After the October Revolution, he moved to Moscow, became one of the first scientists who offered their effective assistance to the Soviet government. He was first appointed a member of the Board, and then Deputy Chairman of Glavtorf and Glavugol, later a member of the Board of the Main Profprofob and a member of the State Academic Council . He was introduced to the Council of Labor and Defense of the Soviet Republic, became a member of the board of the Main Fuel Committee of the Supreme Economic Council [1] . As deputy chairman of the Glavtop, he had a mandate of authority from the Council of Workers 'and Peasants' Defense under the personal signature of Lenin and a permanent pass to the Kremlin [2] .

 
V.E. Klassen Pass to the Kremlin

On December 4, 1919, a government decision was taken to open MLTI , V.E. Klassen was appointed rector. In a letter to the member of the Presidium of the Supreme Economic Council and Gosplan S.P. Sereda on June 4, 1920, V. E. Classen writes:

“I didn’t take up the organization of the Forestry Technical Institute with the occupation of the department and the post of rector in it for personal reasons (I occupy several departments ...), but solely for state reasons: as the head of the entire fuel business, I, of course, know better than anyone there is an urgent need for techniques in the field of forest exploitation, and I also know who, how and how much should be trained to equip all the institutions that I lead. ”

Indeed, since 1919 V.E. Klassen is a professor, head of the Department of Hydraulics of the Mining Department of the Moscow Mining Academy . He was also a professor at MVTU , Moscow Practical Chemical-Technological Institute , Moscow Mechanical Institute. Lomonosov Moscow Institute of Civil Engineers.

In Moscow, he lived at the address: Volkhonka St., 16, apt. 9 [3] .

With the advent of the NEP , in 1926 he became the owner of the private construction joint-stock company Alpha [4] .

In the 30s, he worked at the Lomonosov Mechanical Institute, headed the department of technical mechanics (1938-1941) at the Moscow Petroleum Institute. Gubkin [5] , headed the department of engineering graphics, theoretical and applied mechanics of the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute. Ordzhonikidze (1935-1937) [6] , taught at the Department of Hydraulics MGSU (IISS) [7] .

The last position held - deputy director of the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Ammunition in Moscow, died in 1944.
