Dolores Hidalgo ( Spanish: Dolores Hidalgo ), full official name: Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional ( Spanish Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional ) is a municipality in Mexico , Guanajuato , with an administrative center in the city ​​of the same name . Content

General information

Until 1947, the municipality was called Cocomacán , which can be translated from the Purepecha language as a place for hunting for doves . Then it was renamed the Dolores Hidalgo Cuna de la Independencia Nacional in a sign that the priest Miguel Hidalgo in the church of Grido Dolores gave rise to the beginning of the war of independence [3] .

The area of ​​the municipality is 1656 km², which is 5.41% of the total state area [4] , and the highest point is located in the settlement of La Penitita and is 2323 meters [1] .

Dolores Hidalgo borders with other municipalities in the state of Guanajuato : in the north with San Diego de la Union , in the east with San Luis de la Paz , in the south with San Miguel de Allende , in the west with Guanajuato , and in the northwest with San Felipe .
