Doctrine of Discovery
John Marshall is the author of the Doctrine of Discovery , expressed in one of the court decisions, according to which the people who discovered new lands receive the right to them, and the natives of these lands retain the right to live on this land, but not to own it. The doctrine became the basis for the forcible Eviction of Indians that took place during his lifetime, especially the Five Civilized Tribes .
