Peter James Barris ( born Peter James Barris ; born 1952 , Chicago , Illinois , USA ) is an American businessman and venture capitalist , chairman of the board of directors and general partner of NEA [1] . One of the richest American Greeks ($ 444 million, 2017, The National Herald ) [2] [3] . Member of the board of directors of many companies, including Broadview Networks Holdings, Echo Global Logistics, Groupon , Hillcrest Laboratories, InnerWorkings, Jobfox, MediaBank, SnagFilms , Vonage Holdings and ZeroFOX ” [4] . Since 2007, the name of Barris often appears in the Midas List of Forbes magazine (# 8/2011, # 76/2014) [5] [6] .

Biography

Born and raised in Chicago in a Greek family. His father James was a design engineer, and his mother a housewife. Peter’s ancestors immigrated to the United States from Greece [2] [7] .

He graduated from the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences of Northwestern University with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering (1974) and the Taka School of Business at Dartmouth College with a master 's degree in business administration (1977) [6] [8] .

In 1977-1985, he worked at General Electric Corporation in various managerial positions, including Vice President and General Manager of the Information Services Division of GXS Inc..

He served as president and COO of Legent Corporation, senior vice president of the system software department of UCCEL Corp..

Since 1992, he has been working for New Enterprise Associates (NEA); in 1999-2017, he served as general managing partner [1] .

Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Northwestern University, Member of the Board of Supervisors of the School of Business Taka, Founding Member of the philanthropic organization Venture Philanthropy Partners (Washington, DC) [1] .

Being an active member of the Greek diaspora , he is a member of the Leadership 100 charity foundation of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America , which supports the organizations of the American Archbishopric in the promotion and development of Greek Orthodoxy and Hellenism in the United States. The foundation was created in 1984 under the auspices of Archbishop Jacob [9] . Member of the Order of the Holy Apostle Andrew , wears the official (title) archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople [2] .

Personal life

Married to his wife, Adrienne has two daughters. Lives in McLane ( Virginia ) [2] [6] .
