Biography
Albert Krantz was born in 1448 in the city of Hamburg , where he was the dean of the council [5] .
He enjoyed universal favor and during the feuds of Dietmarsov with Denmark and Vendian cities, he was chosen as the mediator of both sides [5] .
The main theological work of A. Krantz is “ Metropolis sive historia ecclesiastica Saxoniae ” (1571, 1590). Of the historical works of the scientist, the most famous are: “Vandalia” (1519) - the history of the Vendians , “ Chronica Regnorum Agri lonarium Daniae, Suetiae, Norvegiae ” (1546, 1583) and “ Saxonia ” (1520) [5] [6] .
According to the doctor of universal history , Professor of the Imperial St. Petersburg University G.V. Forsten , “ Kranz is a completely reliable source only for the last years of the reign of Christian I and the first years of the reign of John. The whole early medieval history of Denmark is set forth by him according to Saxon Grammar, the later - by Corwer " [5] .
Both "Vandalia" and the chronicle of the northern states Kranz starts from ancient times and brings Vandalia to 1501, and chronicles the northern states to 1504 [5] .
The author's syllable is clean and smooth. Until the middle of the XVI century, the chronicle of the northern states of Kranz was the only book by which the Danes could study their native history. Kranz, as a historian, shows complete impartiality to the events described [5] .
Albert Krantz died on December 7, 1517 [7] [8] .
