IDEA Activities

In November 2013, the 4th in a row International Exhibition for Environmental Protection, organized by Iteca Caspian and ITE Group Plc from Great Britain , with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan , the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and organization, was held at the Expocenter in Baku IDEA. One of the main goals of the exhibition was the introduction of new environmental technologies for Azerbaijani citizens. Representatives of both national (Azmeco, Ekol, Yagmur 2) and foreign ( GEA Westfalia from Germany , Oxyzo from France , Atarfil from Spain , Innoveox from Italy , Intertech Corporation from Kazakhstan , IlBank from Turkey , Antres-Azv from Czech Republic and others) companies that have demonstrated equipment associated with an alternative form of energy [3] .

Every year, on September 25, the IDEA Resource Center (located at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan ) holds events dedicated to the " International Day of the Sea ". The main focus is on pollution of water basins and reduction of fresh water reserves around the world [4] .

In November 2017, the international exhibition “Ecology of the Caspian 2017”, organized by the Caspian Event Organizers, opened in the capital city of Baku . This is the eighth exhibition organized with the support of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan and IDEA Public Association. Two IDEA projects are linked to the Gizilagach State Reserve and the Caspian Sea . According to the content of the first project, the development and expansion of the Gizilagach State Reserve are the main tasks, the purpose of which is to turn this site into a National Park. The content of the second draft states the inclusion of the first Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the Caspian Sea. MPA will guarantee the protection of six significant species of marine fish that are on the verge of extinction. The functioning of the new National Park and MPA will be regulated by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. The entire territory of the National Park will be almost 100,000 hectares. 33% of them will be separated by MOP.

It is planned to create a shelter for endangered marine species such as anadromous fish and sturgeon . The implementation of this plan, starting in 2015, was undertaken by the Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE) [6] .

“Let's protect the leopards!”

This summer camp for children was organized in July 2014 at the initiative of IDEA and the WFTU with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Center and the Ministry of Education . Children from the Masalli , Jalilabad and Yardimli districts arrived in the camps. The first such camp was organized in 2013 for children from the areas of Astara , Lankaran and Lerik [7] .

Tree Planting

Public association IDEA, Azersun Holding and ASAN Service organized a tree planting campaign in accordance with the project “Exchange of a piece of paper for a sheet of wood” in March 2018. About 150 tons of waste paper were collected and sent for recycling. Azerbaijani youth took part in the campaign, which was organized jointly with the Landscape Gardening Service of Baku. 1,500 trees were planted (flat Khan tree, olive tree , sea buckthorn , cypress , pine , ash , Japanese naz-naz, oleander , chaste tree and acacia ).

The project “Exchange of paper for a sheet of wood” aims to achieve a reduction in paper consumption [8] . The number of trees planted by IDEA members is approximately 4,251,869. [9]

From Waste to Art

The project "From waste to art" was organized in May 2015 by the IDEA Public Association and the Space of Contemporary Art "YARAT" in the capital of Azerbaijan. According to the project, on December 16, two famous artists from the UK, Nicholas Blake Sayers and Glendon Michael Casey, collected about 3,000 plastic bottles and used them to create a Christmas tree on Samed Vurgun Street in Baku. The height of this tree was 7 meters. Another similar campaign to collect used bottles for this project was conducted by Pepsi Azerbaijan in Baku [10] .

Bizim həyət (Our Courtyard)

On the initiative of the IDEA Public Union and the Javan Youth Public Movement, a new project was launched called Bizim həyət (Our Courtyard). The main objective of the project is the development, reconstruction and repair of courtyards in the capital of Baku. The first courtyard, which was reconstructed, was a courtyard located on Huseyn Saidzadeh Street in the Nasimi district of Baku. The grand opening of this courtyard took place in December 2017. In the new courtyard there was a playground, a football field and equipment for sports (fitness center). [eleven]

Eko Ev (Eco House)

The main objective of the project is the creation of "environmentally friendly houses" and their use in the future. In addition, IDEA holds a competition among architects who submit their work on the official website of the Organization. Winners will receive a reward in the form of a sum of money and will have the opportunity to practice abroad [12] .

Training Programs

IDEA executives organized training programs to provide students with experience and practice, instead of theoretical skills. The project involved ecologists, biologists, geographers, translators and people with good knowledge of the English language. At the end of the training program, participants had the opportunity to participate in trainings organized every week.

Photo Contest

In 2016, IDEA held a photo contest to promote the nature of Azerbaijan. It was allowed to publish 3 photos to win the competition. Age category of participants is from 14 to 29 years old. The winner was announced at an exhibition in the Museum of Modern Art in October in Baku [13] . A similar kind of photo contest was held as part of a project called “Children's View on Earth”, which was joined by about 1,200 children from 90 countries. [14] IDEA members took several snapshots of a Caucasian leopard in the Zangezur National Park named after Hasan Aliyev in the southwestern part of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and in the Talysh Mountains . Photographers met 7 different leopards.

Other projects organized by IDEA include the Ecological Laboratory for Children, beach cleaning and recycling of plastic and paper, the Big Five project (protecting 5 species of animals), the Winter Camp for Young Ecologists, and the Green Future photo exhibition.

Earth Hour 2017

IDEA has been approved by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) as the official management group for the Earth Hour 2017 campaign [15] in Azerbaijan. The 10th anniversary of Earth Hour was celebrated in March 2017.

Earth Hour is considered a campaign bringing together billions of people around the world. Participants seek to influence climate change and the environment. In 2016, this campaign brought together 178 countries. The Earth Hour campaign also includes various types of donations through social networks.

As a tradition, in 2017, all countries participating in the Campaign turned off the lights throughout the country due to respect for environmental protection actions.

Green Week in Baku

Green Week in Baku was held on November 12-16, 2012. The program of the event included the International Youth Forum (IYF), the regional consultative meeting of the United Nations Environment Program with major groups and stakeholders, an open lecture at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy for Environmental Diplomacy, and a round table on the Green Economy .

The Green Week was initiated by IDEA with the assistance of the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

At the same time, IDEA (project manager Ramiz Babayev) and the United Nations Environment Program launched several campaigns during the “green week”. One of them was held in front of the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The purpose of the campaign was to notify people about the Green Week project. People who used the services of 10 taxis repainted in green were informed about environmental protection and related programs implemented in Azerbaijan. [16]

Caucasian Cat Summit

In May, the Caucasus Cat Summit was held in Baku. It was attended by foreign experts, mainly representatives of the WWF, the International Union for Conservation of Nature), the Smithsonian Institution , the Zoological Society of London and Harvard University .
