Biography
From the baronial family von Gershau . Entered the service in 1843 after the end of His Majesty the Corps of Pages , promoted to lieutenant of the Guard. From 1863 he participated in the Polish company , for bravery in this company was awarded the Golden St. George's saber :

From 1864 - Colonel Guard, Commander of the Life Guards Horse Artillery . In 1865 he was promoted to major general , in 1867 he was granted to the retinue of His Imperial Majesty , in 1873 promoted to lieutenant general . Since 1875 - Head of the 3rd Cavalry Division . In 1886 he was promoted to general of artillery .
In 1893, he was renamed into real secret advisers with the appointment of an honorary guardian of the Board of Trustees of the Empress Maria Fedorovna Institutions , and was a member of the elite St. Petersburg English Assembly [3]
He was awarded all Russian orders, right up to the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky with diamond marks granted to him on January 6, 1899.
