Born in Vetluga in the family of teachers of the city gymnasium. The son of Anatoly Alekseevich Skvortsov is a helminthologist, and the brother of Mark Anatolyevich Skvortsov is a director of the Gorky television studio.

He graduated from the 3rd Nizhny Novgorod school named after M. A. Bakunin (1925) and the mechanical faculty of Nizhny Novgorod State University with a degree in Thermal Engineering (1930).

He was sent to the Krasnoe Sormovo plant, where he worked until 1951 in positions from designer to chief of the metallurgical, then fuel and furnace bureau. During the war, under his leadership, furnaces for tank production were built, and after the war, rotary hearth furnaces, which are used now.

From 1932 until the last days of his life, he taught and conducted scientific work at the Gorky Industrial (Polytechnic) Institute - first in combination, since 1951 he moved there completely.

In 1940, he was approved in the academic title of associate professor, in 1945 he defended his thesis on the topic “Research of the operation of heating furnaces”.

The results of scientific research were introduced into production: under his leadership, modernization and rationalization of furnace farms were carried out forging, thermal and smelting workshops at the Krasnoye Sormovo, Teplokhod, Avtogaz, and Krasnaya Etna plants.

In 1959, he defended his doctoral thesis on the theme "The study of the solidification of steel ingots in a continuous casting plant, as well as in a mold and in the form using hydraulic modeling." In 1961, approved in the rank of professor.

In 1960, he became the founder of the Metallurgical and Heating Furnaces Department, which he headed for more than 26 years.

Together with colleagues and students, he carried out scientific research in the field of continuous and conventional casting of iron-carbon and non-ferrous alloys, the results of which were summarized in monographs (written in collaboration): "Heat transfer and hardening of steel in continuous casting plants" (1966); "Continuous casting in a rotating electromagnetic field" (1971); "The formation of ingots under external dynamic effects" (1989); "The impact of external influences on the process of forming ingots and blanks" (1991) and in the publications of scientific journals and collections of scientific papers.
