King of Hungary ( Hung. Magyar királyа ) - the title of ruler of the Kingdom of Hungary . It arose after the adoption of Christianity by the Hungarian prince Istvan I as the state religion. Some kings ( Istvan I Saint , as well as Maria Theresa and her successors) bore the title of Apostolic King , which gave the right to the monarch to exercise not only secular, but also spiritual authority.

History
The title was created in 1000, after Istvan I adopted Roman Christianity. Almost all the kings of Hungary were crowned with the Crown of St. Stephen . The last king of Hungary was Charles IV , although formally Hungary remained a monarchy until 1946.
