Mayma

Mayma (from the name of the Altai clan and tribal union Maymans [2] ) is a village in the Altai Republic of Russia , the administrative center of the Mayminsky district and the Mayminsky rural settlement . One of the largest villages in Russia .

Physico-geographical characteristics

Geographical position

Located on the right bank of the Katun River, at the confluence of the Maima River in Katun . Behind Maima begins the mountainous part of the P-256 Chuysky Tract . To the left of it goes the road to Gorno-Altaysk . The distance from the village to Gorno-Altaysk on the map is 9 kilometers, but in reality Maima has practically merged with Gorno-Altaysk, has common communications and a unified transport network with this city. The government of the republic periodically examines the question of the possibility of combining two settlements into one.

The building of the administration of the Maiminsky district

With a population equal to a small city, it does not have a developed structure of public leisure places, large network shopping centers, the proximity of the capital of the Altai Republic of Gorno-Altaysk , where Maima residents prefer to work and relax, affects. In the center of the village is the district cultural center, which houses the Altai Stones geological museum, created with the support of the Altai geophysical expedition. The museum presents samples of rocks and minerals, prints and petrified remains of Altai fossil animals, cave formations, as well as stone products. On the central square, in front of the house of culture, there is a fountain and a stage where all the significant festivals of the Maymins are held. Behind Maima, eight kilometers along the Chuysky tract , is the Gorno-Altai Airport .

Lenin Street is the central street of the village, almost all along it has two lanes in each direction. It houses the building of the district administration, prosecutor's office, treasury, department of the interior and others.

At the intersection of Lenin and Altayskaya streets, there is an intersection that serves as the central square, named Yubileina, in honor of the 200th anniversary of the village. However, the official name of this place appeared at the behest of officials. Traditionally, for dozens, if not hundreds, of years, he has his own name: Departure, that's what residents call him.

Most of Maima consists of one- and two-story houses of individual development. In the central part there are two - five-story apartment buildings. On the banks of the Katun River there is one of the micro-districts: the village of Gidrostroiteley. It consists of two-three-story panel houses.
