Salyamonas Banaitis ( lit. Saliamonas Banaitis ; July 15, 1866 , village of Vaitiekupiai, Suwalk province , Russian Empire (now Shakiai region of Lithuania ) - May 4, 1933 , Kaunas ) - Lithuanian publisher , banker and socio-political and educator.

Biography
The early death of his father and brother made Banaitis drop out of school to work on a family farm. Despite the lack of higher education, he actively participated in Lithuanian cultural life - he helped V. Kudirka publish the Lithuanian newspapers Ūkininkas and the Varpas magazine ( Varpas , Kolokol), took part in the work of the Great Vilnius Sejm .
In 1905, he was one of the first to establish a printing house on Lithuanian lands that belonged to the Russian Empire, and led it until 1918. He worked closely with the Society of St. Casimir ( Šv Kazimiero Draugija ) and published nearly 400 books and ten periodicals in Lithuanian. In 1911 he founded the credit union .
From 1915 to 1917, his publishing house published the newspaper “Wieście Kowieńskie” (“Kovenskie Izvestia”) in Polish, Lithuanian and German. In 1918-1919, during the war of independence of Lithuania, he was involved in attracting fighters to the formed Lithuanian army .
During the German occupation of Lithuania, he founded a Lithuanian-language secondary school in Kaunas and 12 elementary schools.
He was a member of the Lithuanian Christian Democratic Party . In September 1917 he was elected a member of the Lithuanian Tariba . February 16, 1918 put his signature on the Act of Independence of Lithuania .
After Lithuania gained independence, he was one of the founders of the right economic and political union of Lithuanian farmers and the editor of his newspaper Žemdirbių balsas (Voice of the Farmers).
He also founded the Commercial and Industrial Bank of Lithuania, was a co-founder and deputy chairman of the Lithuanian Shipping Corporation. His last project, the construction of a bus station in Kaunas, was completed after his death.
Father of the composer Kazimieras Viktoras Banaitis .
Died of a stomach ulcer . He was buried in the Pyatrashyun cemetery .
He was awarded the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas 4 degrees.
