Biography
Juliana Matanovich was born in 1959, she studied first in the school of Dzhurdzhenovac, and then in high school in Nashitsa . After graduation, she entered the Josip Juraj Shtrosmayer University , which she graduated in 1982, receiving a diploma in the specialty of the Yugoslav languages and literature [3] . In 1998 she defended her doctoral dissertation at the University of Zagreb on the subject of a historical novel in Croatian literature of the 20th century ( Croatian. Povijesni roman u hrvatskoj književnosti XX. Stoljeća ) [2] .
In 2009 she received the “Cyclops” award in the nomination “The Best Prose”, for the collection “Who else is afraid of a literary hero” [4] .
Her works have been translated into Ukrainian , German , Hungarian , Serbian , Bulgarian , Macedonian and Slovenian .
Matanovic is the author of a number of scientific monographs, among which are the Four Dimensions of Doubt ( Horv. Četiri dimenzije sumnje ), 1989; "Manerism and Baroque" ( Horv. "Manirizam i barok" ), 1991; “Baroque: from the point of view of modernity” ( Croatian Barok iz suvremenosti gledat ), 1992; "Ivan Gundulich" ( Horv. "Ivan Gundulić" ), 1993; “First person singular” ( Horv. “Prvo lice jednine” ), 1997; “Good customs” ( Horv. “Lijepi običaji” ), 2000.
For his literary and literary-critical activities, in addition to the Cyclops Prize (2009), he was awarded the Seven Secretaries of the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (1989), Joseph and Ivan Kozarac (1997) and Yulia Besensich (2003) awards.
