Stephen Balbus ( Steven Andrew Balbus , born November 23, 1953, Philadelphia, PA) is an American-British astrophysicist. Oxford (since 2012), and formerly a professor at the Paris Higher Normal School, a member of the NAS of the USA (2015) and the Royal Society of London (2016) [1] . In 1971 he entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who graduated as a bachelor of mathematics and physics. He received a Ph.D. in theoretical astrophysics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1981. He was a postdoc at Princeton University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since 1985, he taught at the University of Virginia. Since 2004, for nine years, professor at the Department of Physics at the Paris Higher Normal School.
