Biography
Born on November 20 ( December 2 ), 1886 in the village of Zelen'kov (now Talnovsky district of Cherkasy region ). After graduating from the University of Warsaw in 1912, he worked as a teacher of Russian literature in a Kiev gymnasium.
Under Soviet rule, he focused on the organization of public education and the teaching of Ukrainian and Russian languages at labor faculty and pedagogical courses. Since 1923, he taught Ukrainian at universities in Kiev , including the university . Since February 1926 he has been a member of the business speech section, which operated at the Institute of Ukrainian Scientific Language. Since 1938 he worked as an assistant professor of Ukrainian language at Kiev University. T. Shevchenko. Since 1944 - Senior Researcher, Head of the Language Methodology Sector of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Pedagogy ( Kiev ).
He died on November 30, 1948 . He was buried in Kiev at the Lukyanovsky cemetery (plot number 20, row 15, place 20).
Scientific activity
He created the first stable textbooks of the Ukrainian language, according to which many generations of schoolchildren studied, - “Grammar of the Ukrainian language, part 1 (Phonetics and morphology)” (1938, 17th ed. - 1956) and “Grammar of the Ukrainian language, part 2 ( Syntax) ”(1946, 14th ed. - 1959).
