Biography
Born October 5, 1901 in Liverpool. After graduating from high school, in 1921 he entered Cambridge University , which he graduated in 1926 and was immediately hired by the British Museum Library as a librarian and worked until 1959. In 1959 he was elected to the post of director of this library, he held this position until 1968, after which he retired. As a teacher, he taught a bibliography course at the library schools of the University of London . He founded the British Library and after its opening became its permanent member.
He died in 1988.
