About Publishing
Bloomsbury Publishing Plc is an independent publishing house based in London known for the release of novels. In 1999 and 2000, it was awarded the title Publisher of the Year. The success of the publishing house in recent years has been associated mainly with the JK Rowling series of books about Harry Potter .
The company was founded in 1986 by Nigel Newton , Previously working in other publishing houses. By 1995, the company was among the officially registered enterprises, generating income of 5.5 million pounds, which allowed it to master the production of paperback books and children's literature. Proper capital investment brought in 1998 another 6.1 million pounds, thanks to which the American branch of the publishing house was opened. In 2000, Bloomsbury acquired A & C Black Plc , and in 2002 - Whitakers Almanack , after which other acquisitions were made.
Books for children
One of the most famous projects of the publisher - a series of books about Harry Potter . To date, all seven books have been published.
For a long time, various publishers, one after another, rejected the manuscript, until in 1995 the small publishing house Bloomsberry ( Eng. “Bloomsbury” ) did not agree to accept the book. The book was published on June 26, 1997. Publishers could not imagine that a simple children's fairy tale would be so popular. The Potter story instantly became a hit in the UK, and then around the world. For four years, the turnover of the publishing house grew by 143% and in 2001 amounted to $ 100 million.
