History

The house of the "merchant wives of Afimya and Irina Chizhev" appeared in Staromonetny Lane at the beginning of the 19th century. The manor complex is based on earlier buildings, the dating of which has not been established. Later, an extension was made to the main house, and the left wing was built on the second floor [2] and lengthened. The manor acquired its finished appearance by the end of the 1830s [3] .

The main house has almost completely retained its appearance, except that in the 1920s the windows of the lower floor were trimmed. It faces the lane, the central part is highlighted by a portico [3] . The facades of the mansion are decorated with stucco bas-reliefs [2] . Between the left wing and the main house there is a classic fence with wrought iron gates and white stone pylons [3] . Metal umbrellas over the entrances were preserved, restorers restored wooden gate with carvings, characteristic of the XIX century [2] . The interiors of the mansion have been lost [4] . In the depths of the courtyard of the estate is a service building (XIX century) [3] .

Since 1979, the Institute housed the Institute of the Lithosphere of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR / RAS . On the facade of the office building of the estate there are memorial plaques to the founder of the institute, academician A. V. Sidorenko , as well as to directors N. A. Bogdanov and A. L. Yanshin [3] . In 2004, the Institute of the Lithosphere became part of the GIN RAS .
