Biography
Virdzi was born in Livorno, Italy, in 1964 in the family of a Sicilian policeman and former singer. He spent his early childhood in Turin in northern Italy, then the Virdzi family returned to Livorno, where he grew up in the Le Sorgenti working class area. As a little boy, he began to cultivate his passion for literature throughout his life.
Virdzi made his directorial debut in 1994 with the film "Beautiful Life." Virdzi's first full-length film, shot with stars Sabrina Ferilli and Massimo Gini , tells the story of a love triangle amid an irreversible identity crisis of the Italian working class. The film was presented at the 1994 Venice International Film Festival and received the Golden Clapper Award, Silver Ribbon Award, and the prestigious David di Donatello Award for Best Director Debut. With this debut, Paolo showed his exceptional talent in directing.
