Prosper Garno is a French surgeon and naturalist .

Born in Brest. He was an assistant to the surgeon and scientist Louis Isidore Duperre , being with him on board during the circumnavigation of the ship La Coquille in 1822-1825. Together with Rene Lesson, they put together a huge collection of South American and Pacific species (wildlife). With part of it, Garno, suffering from dysentery , was sent back on board the Castle Forbes ship. It, however, crashed at the Cape of Good Hope in July 1824. Together with Lesson, Prosper Garno wrote a zoological part of a swimming report entitled Voyage autour du monde exécuté par order du roi sur la corvette La Coquille (1828-32). Died at the age of 44 in Paris .
In honor of the scientist named gecko Hemidactylus garnotii [3] .
