Description
Butterflies of small sizes, usually painted in orange and brown tones. The wings are on top of most species with a brilliant tint. In the central cell on the underside of the wings there are two spots inside, and the third on the transverse vein. The underside of the hind wings with rows of spots (often in light fringes) and with reddish dimples in marginal areas. Head with bare eyes (no hairs). Antenna with fusiform club.
The central cells of the upper and lower wings are closed. Vein R1 does not branch; veins R2 and R3 merge into one; R4 and R5 share a common trunk. All five veins go to the costal margin of the fore wing (or R5 goes almost to the top). The outer edge of the front wings is straight or rounded, the hind wings with a wavy edge at the rear corner.
