DescriptionThe total length reaches 14 cm. Sexual dimorphism is observed: females are larger than males. The head is large, the snout is slightly elongated. Eyes moderately large with iris . There is a lateral ridge. The mouth is a suction cup . The teeth are brush-like and have the same size on both jaws. The body is stocky, covered with bone plates. The dorsal fin is high, consists of 2 hard and 7 soft rays. Adipose fin small. The pectoral fins are wide. The anal fin consists of 1 hard and 4 soft rays. The caudal fin is wide, with a neckline. The lower lobe is elongated.
Coloring is dark brown with 5-6 thin golden stripes on the body and perpendicular lines to it on the head. The fins are striped. The intensity of the color depends on the mood.
LifestyleThis is a bottom , rather territorial, fish. It is found on fast sections of rivers with a rocky bottom. a fish. Lays on the ground during the day, active at night. It feeds mainly on algae .
ReproductionFemales lay eggs in caves, males guard the masonry.
DistributionInhabits the rivers Shingu , Tapajos , Madeira , Ventuari , Huatuma - within Venezuela and Brazil .
