Litvinov, Ivan Mikhailovich

He graduated from the seven-year, then - industrial and technical vocational school. Graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Kharkov Institute of Technology , student Ya.V. Stolyarova .

Professional Activities

After graduation, he takes part in the design of workshops of the Kharkov Tractor and Turbogenerator, Kramatorsk Machine-Building Plant and a number of other facilities.

• In 1934, he proposed an original method of reinforcing reinforced concrete structures, the essence of which is that additional reinforcement installed to increase their bearing capacity is connected to previously exposed reinforcement of the reinforced structure by welding, followed by one-sided increase in the section of the element and using quick-hardening cements or heat treatment of concrete .
• In 1940 he defended a Ph.D. thesis at the Kharkov Civil Engineering Institute on the topic “Classification of loess soils according to their degree of subsidence and basic water-protection measures for structures on loess soils”.
• With the retreat of our troops from Kharkov, Donbass, he takes part in the work to disable strategically important facilities.
• On the instructions of the High Command Headquarters, he, at that time the chief engineer of the Airfield Construction Directorate in the Stalingrad Region, supervises the construction of a large reference concrete airfield in the city of Gumrak. At the same time, in difficult field conditions, he organizes the production of reinforced concrete bombs, high-strength elements for pillboxes and armored trains, metal machine-gun caps
• In the period from 1943 to 1946, on the instructions of the USSR State Committee of Defense, I. M. Litvinov participated in the construction of high-octane aviation gasoline plants in the city of Guryev, Kazakh SSR (currently the Atyrau Oil Refinery) and an automobile plant in the city of Kutaisi, Georgian SSR.
• 1946 - After demobilization, I.M. Litvinov returns to Kharkov, where at the Southern Research Institute for Construction (YUZHNI) he goes from a senior researcher to the director of the institute
• In 1968, based on the totality of scientific research carried out over more than thirty-five years, he defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences at the Kiev Civil Engineering Institute. The doctoral dissertation is devoted to construction in difficult soil conditions of the Ukrainian SSR: questions related to the development of instruments and methods for studying the physicomechanical properties of soils, methods of compaction of subsidence soils, and others were put forward for protection.
• In 1970, I. M. Litvinov was awarded the title of professor.

Participation in international scientific conferences

I. M. Litvinov made scientific reports and presentations at international conferences, congresses and symposia, including the IV, VIII International congresses on soil mechanics and foundation engineering (London, 1957, Moscow, 1973); in Czechoslovakia (Brno, 1958); in the USA - at Boston, California, Princeton, Massachusetts universities and the American National Academy of Sciences (Washington), where he traveled as the head of the Soviet delegation of scientists; in India - at the Indian National Scientific and Technical Conference on the bearing capacity of soils (New Delhi, 1961), which also led the Soviet delegation.

• Litvinov I.M. is the author of 238 scientific works, including 13 books, 66 brochures. Overseas published 43 of his work in ten countries. He is the author of 34 inventions and technical improvements in a wide variety of fields of science and technology - from coats for cinema storing (which was widely used in European countries) to measuring beacons for studying the dynamics of crack opening in structures, methods for arranging pile foundations, etc.
