Writing materials

Stylos used in the XIV century for writing

Writing materials are writing tools. These, in particular, include rods, slate, feathers, pens, pencils, felt-tip pens, markers, embers, crayons [1] .

They were invented in the Ancient East , then came to Ancient Greece , from where they spread throughout Europe . Among the most ancient writing materials are brushes from reed stalks with which papyrus , leather, planks, parchment , bark, clay shards, and plaster were applied with ink obtained from soot with the addition of glue. Also an important role for Greek writing was played by the stylus for the application of cuneiform signs on clay, which they began to use for writing on wax-coated tablets [2] .

In late antiquity in the West began to use goose feathers [2] .
