March of Dimes and Richard B. Johnston, Jr., MD Prize in Developmental Biology , formerly March of Dimes Prize in Developmental Biology ( Foundation Award in Development Biology ) is an American award, which has been annually since 1996 researchers are awarded whose work has had a great influence on the fundamental understanding of malformations . The Foundation founded it in honor of Dr. Jonas Salk shortly before his death in 1995. The monetary component is $ 150,000 (up to 2017 - 250), along with which a silver medal is cast, cast by Tiffany in the form of a dime with Franklin Roosevelt, in recognition of him as the founder of the March of Dimes foundation in 1938 .
