History
The Kamyshin Museum of History and Local Lore was established in 1961. In 1968, the museum received the status of a state. The museum is housed in the building of the Zemsky house, built in 1901 in the Russian Baroque style and located on the banks of the Volga. Currently, the building is an architectural monument of federal significance.
The exposition of the Museum of Local History occupies 14 large rooms. Here is represented the fauna of the region, the history of the development of the region, geography and geology of the region, archeology, the Kamyshin region after the revolution and during the Great Patriotic War, the history of the county.
The museum currently has about 50 thousand exhibits. The most significant collections are ethnographic, paleontological and archaeological. The museum has rare books; antique clocks, dishes, furniture; a collection of coins, a large amount of scientific literature has been collected and there is a book fund consisting of 16 thousand volumes. A separate room is occupied by the exposition of everyday life of Soviet citizens. It presents furniture, the first Soviet TVs, dressing table, children's toys.
The museum hosts permanent and temporary art exhibitions [1] . Every year on August 13, the day of the foundation of the local history museum, an open day is held. The first director of the museum was K. D. Dyble.
Museum Building
The museum is located in the building of the former "Zemsky Council". The building was designed by architect A.T. Timofeev in 1901 based on Moscow-Yaroslavl architecture of the 17th century.
The building is two-story, brick, in the plan in the foreground of the letter G, has a circular girdle and ends with cornices with crackers. The building has high roofs with dormers, wide balconies along the facade. On the ground floor of the building there are semicircular windows. The architectural elements of the building are highlighted in yellow and red. The territory in front of the museum is landscaped. The building has an extension.
