History

The Church of the Nativity in Vyksa was built in 1773 with the money of local brothers-breeders Ivan and Andrei Rodionovich Batashev. It is consecrated by a small rank . The temple is located on the cathedral square near the large Novovyksunsky pond. Around the temple there are residential buildings of the former settlement of the Upper Blast Furnace.

In the 30s of the XX century the church was closed several times, its rector, Fr. Peter Smolyaninov was arrested. In 1937, services in the temple ceased, the temple itself was closed, and his priest was repressed. During the Great Patriotic War, a canteen for military personnel worked in the temple building, then at different times there was a stable, a gas station, and a fire station.

In the early 1990s, the temple was restored. To date, the temple has been renovated. Since 2004, it has been painting walls.

Rector of the church: Bishop of Barnabas (Baranov) [1] . Patronal festivals: Nativity of Christ (January 7) and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker (May 22 and December 19).

Architecture

Church of the Nativity is housed in a two-story brick plastered building with columns and a portico. The temple is painted yellow, architectural details are highlighted in white. The second floor is made with semicircular windows, a tented dome with dormer windows, a gilded cupola with a cross. The building has a girdle cornice above the second floor, a four-tier bell tower with Orthodox crosses and a clock on the third tier, three thrones.

Christ Church

In 1990, the right side chapel in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated, in 1991 the main side chapel in the Nativity of Christ was consecrated.

In the summer part of the temple, two cast-iron spiral staircases are made leading to the balcony of the second floor. On the ledge are molded images of angels. The floors in the winter are wooden and in the summer are marble.

When the Church of the Nativity of Christ comes, a Sunday school functions. In 1993, a three-story building of the Spiritual Center with a refectory and a church museum was built near the temple.

Near the Church of the Nativity of Christ in 1999, it was built and consecrated in honor of the Monk Barnabas of Gethsemane. The territory of the church and the baptismal area is fenced with an openwork cast-iron fence made by the masters of the Vyksa Metallurgical Plant.
