History
In 1834, the “merchant son” Stebnev built a two-story stone house in the Middle Ovchinnikovsky Lane. By the beginning of XX this house belonged to L. Ya. Geltishcheva [2] . By her order, the architect F.F. Voskresensky substantially rebuilt the mansion. The former house of Stebnev became its middle part, extensions were made on the sides [3] .
Architecture
The mansion of L. Ya. Geltishcheva is one of the brightest examples of Moscow Art Nouveau. The design is widely used floral motifs. The facade of the small building is covered with turquoise glazed tiles. There are many stucco ornamental details in the window frames (leaves and flowers of a burdock). The niche of the front door is framed by columns of the Tuscan order . On the roof - dormers of unusual shapes. On the attic there are several pedestals with balls, as well as a decorative torch on a stand [4] .
In the center of the main facade is a two-part “Italian” window, consisting of two semicircular windows, united by an arched niche. Above this window on the attic there is a mosaic panel, where orchids are depicted on a golden background [4] . On the facade you can see the monogram of the owner of the mansion L. Ya. Geltishcheva [3] . The windows of the basement floor are covered with wrought iron bars with iris flowers. The interior of the building has been preserved almost unchanged; it is decorated using ceramics, metal parts and stucco moldings [4] .
