Rudolf Wagner-Regeni ( German: Rudolf Wagner-Régeny ; August 28, 1903 , Regin , Transylvania , Austria-Hungary (now Romania ) - September 18, 1969 , East Berlin , East Germany ) - German composer and conductor , music teacher . Biography

From the Transylvanian Saxons . The son of a merchant. From an early age he showed musical talent. Already in childhood he played the piano well .

From 1919 he studied composition at Leipzig , from 1920 to 1923 - at the Berlin Conservatoire . Among his teachers were Stefan Krehl , Robert Teichmüller (in Leipzig), Friedrich Ernst Koch , Emil Nikolaus von Reznichek , Franz Schrecker (in Berlin).

In 1923-1925 he worked as an assistant conductor of the National Opera (Volksopera) in Berlin. Later he was a conductor and composer of the ballet troupe under the direction of Rudolf von Laban , with whom he traveled to many countries of Europe. From 1929 until his death he was friends and collaborated with screenwriter and librettist Caspar Neer .

In 1930, he accepted German citizenship . From 1930 to 1945 he was engaged in musical creativity and gave lessons in composition and theory. In 1947-1950 worked as director of the conservatory in Rostock , then since 1950 - professor at the Berlin Higher School of Music. Eisler (GDR). Creativity

Wagner-Regeny's musical and dramatic works are based on the traditions of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weil . The focus of his compositional work is opera .

He is the author of music for performances and one-act operas, which were staged on the opera stage in the city of Gera, including the operas Mososhoulos (1928), The New Dress of the King (1928), and the opera Sganarelle by Moliere (1929, Essen ) , dramas, scenes “The Holy Courtesan” according to O. Wilde (1932), “Isaiah and Jacob” (1939) according to the biblical legend, etc.

The composer was widely known for the opera Der Günstling (Favorite) based on the drama of W. Hugo 's Maria Tudor (1935, Dresden ). In this realistic musical drama, Wagner-Regeny uses, along with vocal forms, colloquial speech.
