Biography

First took part in a serious tournament at the age of 19 years. Soon he became one of the leading American chess players.

He was a member of the Franklin Chess Club in Philadelphia. As part of the club’s team, he took part in telegraph matches with the team of the Manhattan Chess Club (1904-1912) many times. He also participated in a telegraph match against the team of the Chicago Chess Club.

In 1909, as part of the US team, he participated in a telegraph match with the England team .

The main sporting achievement in the individual competition is a victory in two open US championships (1904 and 1923). He also participated in the American Chess Congresses .
