Biography
Born around 1740. In October 1759 he was enrolled in the Naval Cadet Corps , the following year Odintsov was promoted to midshipman , and in 1762 he was already a midshipman . From 1762 to 1767, Ivan Maksimovich sailed on various ships in the Baltic Sea. Then he made a set of recruits in the Veliky Ustyug province. After he was sent to Arkhangelsk and on May 1, 1768 he was promoted to lieutenant .
A few years later he was appointed commander of the Swan bot and traveled to Kovru and Kumba, where he was instructed to set up temporary observatories. The following year, Ivan Maksimovich took Picket's observatory from there, and then with the same purpose he went to Cola for Professor Rumovsky. Returning to St. Petersburg, Odintsov sailed for two years on different ships in the Baltic Sea, and from 1772 to 1775, while serving on the Victory ship, he participated in an expedition to the Archipelago .
In 1776, he was promoted to lieutenant commander, and shortly thereafter, to assist Comptroller General S. Shubin, he was assigned to the Dnieper Estuary to arrange a harbor and shipyard. In 1781, commanding two frigates , he arrived from Kherson in Akhtiar harbor and made a survey and inventory of this harbor. In 1785, Ivan Maksimovich was appointed commander of the ship "Three Saints." And then, already in the rank of captain of brigadier rank , he commanded the Chesma 100-gun ship for 3 years, and during this service he was promoted to captain of a major general rank on April 14, 1789.
In August of that year he was appointed commander of the Russian squadron in Copenhagen . The following year, during the battle at Krasnaya Gorka , commanding the ship “St. John the Theologian, ”Odintsov showed himself to be a brave and managerial boss. But after that, for non-compliance with some orders of the squadron commander, he was put on trial for almost five years. And only on March 17, 1795, after the meeting of Ivan Maksimovich with Catherine II , the Highest Decree was passed to pardon him, "in respect of his former immaculate and testified courage," which he showed during the battle that was on May 23, 1790 with the Swedish fleet.
A year after his pardon, Odintsov was appointed manager of the navigating company of the Naval Cadet Corps , and remained in this position until his death, and was also promoted to vice admiral on March 14, 1801. I.M. Odintsov died in 1802 at the age of 62.
