Axis Forces
On the side of the Axis forces, the combined Italo-German forces participated. Formally, the commander of the Italo-German forces in North Africa was the Italian Marshal Ettore Bastiko , however, in fact, the German General Field Marshal Erwin Rommel took on the entire role of the commander.
