Ultimate Fighting Championship
In 2005, Koschek attracted the attention of the world's largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship and took part in the very first season of her fighting reality show The Ultimate Fighter , where he performed in the middle weight category. At the quarter-finals stage, he successfully passed Chris Leben , but in the semifinals he gave way to Diego Sanchez by a split decision. Despite the loss, Koschek continued to perform regularly in the UFC and in the following years he was among the leaders of the welterweight division.
Since 2006, he trained in the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA), thanks to which he significantly improved his shock skills. The period of 2006–2008 was very successful in his sports career, Koschek managed to keep the victory over many strong rivals - out of ten fighters who met him, only Georges Saint Pierre and Tiago Alves [1] [2] [3] were able to resist.
In February 2009, Koschek was knocked out by Brazilian Paulo Tiago , but then took over Frank Trigg , Anthony Johnson and Paul Daley , and in the battle with Johnson earned bonuses for the best reception of the evening and the best fight of the evening [4] .
Since the fight with Paul Daly was challenger, Koschek won the right to challenge the welterweight champion title. He became the mentor of the twelfth season of The Ultimate Fighter, where his team opposed the team of reigning champion Georges St. Pierre, and in December 2010, the championship fight finally took place. The confrontation between the fighters lasted all five rounds, in the end the judges unanimously gave the victory to Saint-Pierre, keeping him the championship belt [5] .
Subsequently, Josh Koschek won Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce , but in 2012–2015 he suffered five defeats in a row, after which he left the UFC [6] .
Bellator MMA
In June 2015, Koscek signed a contract for several fights with another large American organization Bellator MMA , but he entered the cage only in January 2017 - in the first round by technical knockout, he lost to the little-known Brazilian fighter Mauricio Alons [7] .
