Biography

Born January 31, 1964 in the city of Mezhdurechensk, Kemerovo region of the RSFSR . He graduated from high school named after A.S. Pushkin in the city of Karatau, Dzhambul region of the Kazakh SSR (1981), in the same year he entered the Physics Department of Tomsk State University (TSU) ; successfully graduated from the university, defended a diploma on the subject "Multipole decomposition of the atomic radiation relaxation operator" with the qualification of physicist (1986). After that, he worked at the Department of Theoretical Physics of TSU until 1988 and then in Vladivostok at the Maritime State University at the Department of Physics and Chemistry (now Maritime State University ). In 1992 he moved to Novosibirsk, where he began to work at the Novosibirsk State University (NSU) in the research department.

In 1992 - defended his thesis, topic: "Light-induced electrodynamic and kinetic effects in atomic gases with a degenerate ground state in the interaction with resonant polarized radiation."

In 2001 - defended his doctoral dissertation, topic: “Kinetics of atoms with a degenerate ground state in resonant polarized fields” [2] .

Since 2013, he has been working at ILF SB RAS as Deputy Director for Science. Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Quantum Electronics, NSU.

Since June 2016 - Director of the Institute of Laser Physics SB RAS .

In October 2016, he was elected a corresponding member of the RAS [3] .

Scientific activity

Specialist in ultra-high resolution laser spectroscopy, laser cooling of atoms, frequency standards, quantum and nonlinear optics of resonant media.

The main scientific results:

  • in the field of ultra-high resolution laser spectroscopy and nonlinear optics in analytical form, he solved the problem of the resonant interaction of an elliptically polarized laser field with an arbitrary optical transition. He constructed a theory of the effect of coherent population trapping (CPT) in degenerate atomic systems;
  • in the field of laser cooling of atoms, he proposed and investigated new methods of ultra-deep laser cooling (less than 10-6 K) in optical gratings;
  • in the field of microwave frequency standards were found new ways of exciting high-contrast ultra-narrow resonances for miniature atomic clocks and magnetometers based on CPN;
  • developed fundamentally new methods for precision spectroscopy of ultracold atoms and ions (magnetically induced spectroscopy, hyper Ramsey spectroscopy, synthetic frequency spectroscopy, etc.), which opened the way to the practical implementation of optical frequency standards with record metrological characteristics in accuracy (up to 10 −19 - 10 −20 ).

Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Quantum Electronics, NSU.
