Geography

The village, is the administrative center of the Elovatsky municipality , located in the southern part of the Samoilovsky district, 11 kilometers from the district center of Samoilovka and 210 kilometers from the regional center of the city of Saratov . The village is located in a picturesque place, by the river and a beautiful oak grove - the Elovatsky forest, in the beams and ravines there are 9 stocked ponds [2] .

Population

The population is 606 [1] people. (2010). According to the 2010 census, 606 people lived in the village, of which 289 were men and 317 were women.

History

The name Elovatka is probably derived from the Ukrainian word "Ialovina" - free, empty land. “Yalovatka” is fertile, soft, uncultivated land on which the first settlers settled. And the first letter in the name has changed over time. Although the villagers are descendants of Ukrainians and now call their village "Yalovatka" [3] .

After the Stolypin reform in Elovatka, as well as throughout Russia, there was a stratification of the peasants. Fists appeared who robbed their fellow villagers.

Soviet power in Elovatka, according to old-timers, was established in December 1917. The first chairman of the village council was Ivan Semenovich Shevtsov.

450 people went to the front from Elovatka. The men who went to the front were replaced by old men, women, and children. The economy destroyed by the war had to be restored for five long years. 134 names of the dead compatriots are recorded on the Obelisk of Glory in the center of the village.

Infrastructure

In the village today there is a secondary secondary school-branch [4] , a kindergarten "Teremok", a house of culture, a post office, shops.

Currently, agricultural land is cultivated by peasant (farm) enterprises.

Famous residents

Kovalenko, Petr Petrovich (1919-2008) - Soviet and Russian surgeon, doctor of medical sciences, professor; participant of the Great Patriotic War.
