Biography
Sergio Morais was born on July 23, 1982 in Sao Paulo . I became interested in martial arts at the age of fifteen, when I saw the performances of Royce and Rixon Gracie in MMA. For many years he practiced Brazilian jiu-jitsu , having been awarded the black belt in the end. Repeatedly became the champion of Brazil, Europe and the world in BZHZH [1] .
Start of a professional career
He made his debut in mixed martial arts at the professional level in October 2006, forced his opponent to surrender in the very first round with the help of a choke back. He went out to fight relatively rarely, he performed mostly in small promotions of São Paulo.
In 2009, he won the tournament of the American organization Bellator , after which he signed a contract with the Brazilian Jungle Fight promotion, where he spent a total of three fights: he won two opponents, but lost one - at the last second of the second round, he missed the American Brett Cooper’s hit and turned out to be in knockout.
The Ultimate Fighter
Having six victories and only one defeat in his record, in 2012 Morais became a participant of the first Brazilian season of the popular fighting reality show The Ultimate Fighter - came here as a medium weight fighter, although his usual weight category is the average. [2] At the qualifying stage, the former world Muay-Thai champion Tiago Relah passed safely, in the middle of the first round of the 50/50 guard he twisted his heel and forced him to surrender. Under the seventh (penultimate) number was selected in the team of Vitor Belfort .
At the quarter-finals stage, he surrendered Delson to Elena , but was knocked out by Daniel Sarafyan in the semi-finals, missing a knee in a jump. Despite the loss, in connection with the injury, Sarafyan nevertheless received the right to perform in the final and met with Cesar Ferreira - the confrontation between them lasted all the allotted time, in the end the judges gave a unanimous decision to Ferreira [3] .
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Continuing cooperation with the organization of the Ultimate Fighting Championship , in the same 2012, Morais returned to the welterweight and went to the Octagon against his colleague on the TUF show Reni Forti , having won him the change in the third round.
In August 2013, in a duel with Neil Magni, in the first round he entered the “ triangle ” and forced the opponent to knock, while receiving an award for the best reception of the evening [4] .
Because of the injury, Morais has not fought with anyone for quite a long time. Finally, in 2015, his rivals were Frenchman Mikael Lebu and Russian Omari Ahmedov , whom he defeated by unanimous decision and technical knockout, respectively [5] [6] .
In 2016, a draw was recorded in a duel with Luan Chagas , followed by a split decision over Zach Otto [7] .
A battle was planned between Sergio Morais and Max Griffin , but Griffin dropped out of the list of participants in the tournament, and he was replaced by newcomer to the organization Davi Ramos. Morais won this fight by unanimous judicial decision and soon signed a new contract with the UFC for six fights [8] .
The unbeaten run of seven fights was interrupted in September 2016 after meeting Nigerian Camara Usman , who knocked out Morais in the middle of the first round [9] .
In February 2018, Sergio Morais had to fight with Abubakar Nurmagomedov , who recently joined the organization, but in the end, the matchmakers replaced Nurmagomedov with Tim Minns . The battle lasted all three rounds, Morais won by split decision [10] .
