The European Attack Air Group first appeared during the Bosnian War to coordinate the interactions of the French Air Force with British RAF units as part of Operation Thoughtful Force . Since 1997, representatives of Belgium , Germany , Spain , Italy and the Netherlands have also participated in the work of the air group, and since 2007 they have been joined by the air forces of Norway and Sweden .

Office
The headquarters of the air group is in the country from which its commander. Usually it is a four-star general, holding the post of chief of staff of the national Air Force. It has a permanent staff of 30 people who coordinate the interaction between the air force headquarters of the participating countries.
Rotation of command occurs annually.
Tasks
The main tasks of the European Air Group today are the development of the combat potential of the national air force, the organization of search and rescue operations in the combat zone (Combat Search And Rescue), the management of unmanned aerial vehicles (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), and the coordination of fuel supplies.
Once a year, the air group conducts exercises under the code name VOLCANEX.
