Biography
Gennady Konstantinovich Cherkasov was born on February 23, 1930 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory with a degree in piano [2] . In 1953 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory (piano class S. E. Feinberg ), and in 1957 he graduated from graduate school. In 1961 he graduated from graduate school as an opera-symphonic conductor (teachers A. V. Gauk and L. M. Ginzburg ).
In 1958-1959 he interned at the Paris Conservatoire with Professor L. Fourestie (conducting). In 1960-1962 he was the conductor of the Opera Studio of the Moscow Conservatory. In the years 1964-1972 - conductor of the Bolshoi Theater .
In 1964-1972 he was the chief conductor of the Moscow Operetta Theater .
In 1972, he headed the Main Edition of musical programs of the USSR State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, and after the closure of the State Russian Radio Museum in 1996, he was the artistic director and editor-in-chief of its successor to the Russian State Music Center for TV and Radio Broadcasting .
In 1954-2002 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory (associate professor since 1980, professor of the department of opera and symphony conducting and the department of chamber ensemble and quartet since 1984). Since 1984 - artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra of the Moscow Conservatory, with whom he has toured in many cities of Russia and abroad.
Died September 18, 2002 in Moscow.

- His wife is the soloist of the Moscow Operetta Theater Vera Sergeyevna Shilova (1935–2014).
