Content
Geography
The settlement is located on the right bank of the Bolshoi Kokshagi at the confluence of the Vashtranga River, 200 km south-west of Kirov and 40 km west of Yaransk .
The village is adjoined by the settlements of Kokshaga , Big- and Small Sharygino , Pelesnur , Putinovo , Ermolkino . Near the village is the highway Nizhny Novgorod - Yaransk - Kirov.
History
It was first mentioned in 1555 in the Lviv and Nikon chronicles as Cheremis Kikina parish . Also in 1686 it is mentioned in the census book of Mari onboard land. Translated from the Mari name means “hand and field” or “mountain field”.
