FC Sarajevo was founded less than a year after the liberation of Sarajevo from the Nazis. The club first appeared on the Yugoslav sports scene in 1946 under the name Torpedo as a result of the association of the football teams Udarnik and Sloboda. In 1947, the team was renamed "Metelatsu", and in 1949 it received the name, which bears to this day. The main rival is Zheleznichar (Sarajevo) , the matches with which are called the Eternal Derby .
