Malaysia , Kalimantan , Sabah : 4 ° 44'49 "N, 116 ° 52'38" E, about 950 m above sea level. Material was selected from bottom sandstone from Maliau Basin water streams at altitudes from 900 to 1000 m using fine mesh hand grids [1] .
Description
Small black beetles, oval body length 2.97 mm, width 1.6 mm. The head from above is hardly noticeable, as it is partially drawn into the pronotum (prothorax), eyes are large, convex. Elytra convex (length 2.31 mm) with longitudinal rows of small fossa punctures (between the punctures the body is smooth and shiny). Head length 0.27 mm. Pronotum 0.85 mm long, 1.12 mm wide. The dorsal side is black with a slight metallic luster; claws and antennae are dark brown; pubescence is yellow. The ventral side is dark brown. Brilliant golden plastron pubescent [1] [4] .
This is the first find of representatives of the genus Grouvellinus on the island of Borneo (previously this genus was found in the Palaearctic and Oriental region). G. leonardodicaprioi was first described in 2018 by a team of researchers led by entomologist Hendrik Freitag and biospelologist Iva Njunjic , co-founder of Taxon Expeditions. The species G. leonardodicaprioi is similar to the taxon G. hercules Jäch, 1984 from Nepal [1] [4] .
Etymology
The species name G. leonardodicaprioi was given in honor of the famous American actor Leonardo DiCaprio , taking into account his contribution to environmental protection (the ecological fund The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation was created to protect rare ecosystems in 1998 and spent more than $ 80 million on 200 eco-grants) [5 ] , recognizing his inspiring work in promoting environmental awareness and addressing climate change and biodiversity loss. The name was selected on October 6, 2017 during a naming ceremony at the Maliau Basin Studies Center, which was attended by expedition members (organized by the Dutch organization Taxon Expeditions, Leiden, and School of Science & Engineering, Quezon City, Philippines ), as well as a large number of employees and other employees of the field center. The name of the genus Grouvellinus comes from the name of the French coleopterologist Antoine Henri Grouvelle (1843-1917) [1] [4] [2] [3] .
