Biography
The younger brother of the harpist and composer Jules Godefroy . Their father, a theatrical figure , as a result of financial problems, moved with his whole family to France in Boulogne-sur-Mer , where he opened a music school.
In 1832, Felix entered the Paris Conservatory , where he studied the harp class under the leadership of F.-J. Naderman and T. Labarra .
Impressed by the new pedal (concert) harp , created in 1811 by Sebastian Erar , which greatly expanded the technical capabilities of this musical instrument, F. Godefroix decided to engage in concert activities. The advanced double-pedal harp Erara has taken its modern place both in the orchestra and as a solo instrument.
Since 1839, he began a successful solo tour of Europe and the Levant . In 1847, F. Godefroix settled in Paris and began to concert there. Being an outstanding virtuoso , Paganini Harp, he gave concerts throughout Europe.
F. Godefroix enriched playing the harp with new effects and gave his left hand an equal value with his right hand.
The author of two masses and two operas (“La fille de saül” and “La harpe d'or”), compositions for harp: etudes , duets , transcription on Schubert melodies and several compositions for piano [6] .
His didactic work “Mes exercices pour la harpe” has been used by several generations of harpers.
