Kumbulta

The basis of the translation of the toponym is the Ossetian kaumbul - "beet". V. I. Abaev believes that the kumbul belongs to the group of loudly pictorial words considered under the tumblers - “round” (Osset.).

The village is located on the left bank of the river. Urukh in the Digorsky district of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania.

There is one mosque in the village. The mosque was erected in the XVII century by the inhabitants of the village. Restored in 2014. It is the highest mosque in the republic, which is located at an altitude of 1600 meters.

In the vicinity of the village there are several monuments of material culture (the burial grounds Upper and Lower. Rutha, Tsartsiat, etc.). The Upper Rutha burial ground was investigated in 1938-40. Collective tribal tombs of the Middle Bronze Age and individual graves with a rich inventory of Koban culture (1st millennium BC.) Were discovered. Burial ground Tsartsiat - a huge cemetery from stones. crypts and graves, with sets of gold jewelry of the North Caucasian Alans of the 5-11 centuries. Near Kumyult is the Ossetian “Dzuar” (sanctuary). Ossetian patrimonial towers of the 16-18th centuries have been preserved in the village.
