John Charles Fremont (Fremont) ( January 21, 1813 - July 13, 1890 ) - American officer, researcher, one of the first two senators from the state of California (in 1850 ), the first presidential candidate The United States from the Republican Party ( 1856 ), as well as the first presidential candidate from the main party to stand for the abolition of slavery.

In the 1840s, he received the epithet “Pathfinder” from the press, which remained in use, sometimes as the “Great Pathfinder”. [2] [3]
The name of John Fremont is immortalized in the name of a number of places where he traveled. In particular, Fremont Street in Las Vegas is named after him: the Fremont expedition crossed the future territory of Las Vegas ( Mojave Desert ) in 1844.
