The Security Council noted the steps taken by the Sudanese Government in accordance with previous Security Council resolutions, and that the Foreign Ministers of Egypt and Ethiopia supported the lifting of sanctions against Sudan . She welcomed the accession of Sudan to international conventions on the elimination of terrorism, such as the 1997 International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings and the 1999 International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism. [2]
Acting in accordance with Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, the Council lifted the sanctions imposed in previous Security Council resolutions against Sudan [3] . Sanctions were largely symbolic, and only a few countries complied with them [4] . The resolution was adopted with 14 votes to and one abstention from the United States . Although the representative of the United States of America endorsed Sudan's compliance, he stated that the assassination attempt suspects had not been transferred to the relevant authorities. [2]
