Biography

Peter Bartrum suggests that his father, Ayrgol Long-armed , King Dived , was born about 460 years [1] , and Erbin, his son, about 485 years [2] . But some sources claim that Ayrgol was born around 480, whose court was located in Lis Castella , near Dean Biha . [3]

In two versions of the kings of Dyves, the name Erbin is inserted between Gurtevir and Ayrgol, although it is not mentioned in the two earlier versions. Ifor Williams believed that this name was dropped from earlier versions. Erbin, on the other hand, could be the other son of Ayrgol and the brother of Gurtevir. [2]

His father was at enmity with Powys . The armies of the two kingdoms clashed in Krieg Diveda, but the outcome of the battle is unknown. In 495, Ayrgol died and his son Gurtevir became king of Dived. According to another version, he died in 515, and Gurtevir was the son of his son Erbin. [four]

There is other evidence that Erbin is associated with Dived. Thus, in the dialogue between Mirddin and Taliesin , Divel ap Erbin is mentioned, who was killed in battle, defending Dived from Mailgun Long [5] . Also in the poem by Etmik Dinbih , in the Book of Taliesin , Bladeid (9th century), the lord of Dean Biha , in Dywede, is described as “the head of the Erbin clan”. Finally, the poet Risierdin (end of the fourteenth century) mentions Erbin, Tryphin, and "the light origin of Guelidir." [2]
