Adolfus Lewis Heermann (1821–1856) is an American physician, naturalist, ornithologist, and researcher [1] [2] . He traveled around the USA , collecting and cataloging birds, fish, reptiles and plants. As a surgeon and naturalist, he participated in the fifth Pacific railway expedition . He was part of a group led by Robert S. Williamson (see en: Robert S. Williamson ) and reported different species of birds found in the studied areas [3] .

Discoveries and Names
During his expeditions, Heermann discovered several species of birds, animals, and plants in the western United States. Many of them bear his name.
