Biography
Born on May 17 (30), 1909 in the city of Chernigov in the family of an employee. In 1925-1929 he studied at the socio-economic department of the Chernigov Institute of Social Education , after which he graduated from the Nikolaevsk Pedagogical Institute in 1929-1935, was an associate professor at the Faculty of History [1] .
From August 1935 - Assistant of the Institute of History of the All-Ukrainian Association of Marxist-Leninist Institutes. From September 1936 - a graduate student, from 1938 - Junior Researcher, in 1940–1941 - Senior Researcher of the Department of History of Feudalism of the Institute of History of Ukraine of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences . In 1940 he defended his thesis on the topic: " Semyon Paly ". In 1941–1944 - senior researcher at the Institute of History and Archeology, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1944-1948 and 1955-1961 he was a senior researcher in the department of the history of feudalism, in 1948-1955 he served as head of the department of the history of feudalism, in 1961-1973 he headed the department of the history of feudalism (including in 1963-1966 he headed the department of pre-socialist formations) Institute of History, Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR. In 1960 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic: “Essays on the socio-political structure of Left-Bank Ukraine of the late XVII - early. XVIII century. Concurrently in 1935-1941 and 1944-1959 he was an assistant professor, and from 1962 a professor at Kiev State University . He taught courses “Source Studies of the History of the Ukrainian SSR”, “Ukrainian Historiography” and the special course “The Liberation War of 1648-1654. and the reunification of Ukraine with Russia " [2] .
He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and several medals.
He died in Kiev on August 24, 1973. He was buried at the Baikovo cemetery (station number 33).
Scientific Activities
The main issues of research scientist - the history of the Left-Bank Ukraine of the late XVII - first quarter of the XVIII centuries and special historical disciplines: source studies, Ukrainian historiography and paleography. He studied the socio-economic and political history of Ukraine of the Cossack era, primarily the activities of the then Ukrainian state institutions: government bodies, courts and legal proceedings, the organization of the Cossack troops.
Author of more than 50 scientific papers. One of the co-authors of the textbook "Auxiliary historical disciplines." He worked on the creation of a synthetic course in the history of Ukraine. Co-author of the school textbook for grades 7-8 (1962) [3] . He was a member of the editorial board and one of the authors of two editions of the two-volume History of the Ukrainian SSR, the editor-in-chief of the first volume of The History of the Peasantry of the Ukrainian SSR and the collective monograph Essays on the History of Historical Science in Ukraine (the era of feudalism).
