Biography

Araks Surenovna Matevosyan was born on July 31, 1941 [1] in Rostov-on-Don [3] . At the age of 5, she began to study at the music school [2] named after M. M. Ippolitova-Ivanova, in the preparatory class, which was led by the teacher A.F. Bereznyak. The piano teacher was M. I. Beskina Kompaneyets [4] .

At the age of 14, she entered the Rostov School of Arts and began to study piano [1] . Araks Matevosyan was engaged in the composition with the honored artist of the RSFSR A.P. Artamonov , and her teacher in the piano class was Z. A. Grinberg [4] .

In 1964, she graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory in piano, professor V.K. Merzhanova , and also in the composition class of professor A.I. Khachaturian [1] . Her teachers were A. G. Schnittke for reading scores, E. V. Denisov in the course of analysis, V. G. Agafonnikov, and Yu. A. Fortunatov taught the art of instrumentation [4] .

In 1966, after graduating from the conservatory, she became a member of the Union of Composers of the USSR [5] .

In the period from 1964 to 1975 she taught special piano at RUI. In 1975β€”2017, he was a teacher at the Rostov State Conservatory. S. V. Rachmaninov [1] .

Araks Matevosyan had a common creative activity with Aram Khachaturian, which lasted until his death in 1978 [5] .

She wrote chamber operas β€œThe Countess D.'s Love in Letters and Poems”, β€œDear Liar”, β€œGirl in a Tulip”. These works were performed at composer forums in Russia , Bulgaria , Poland , Germany , Italy , Slovenia , and the USA [1] .
