Content
History
The first edition of the newspaper, Belfast Evening Telegraph, was published on September 1, 1870. He was released brothers William Berge and George Byrd. The first edition of the newspaper cost half a penny and consisted of four pages, which covered the events of the Franco-Prussian war and local news.
The rivals of the newspaper are traditionally and , as well as local editions of London newspapers.
Until February 19, the Belfast Telegraph was a wide-format newspaper ( broadsheet ), after which it became compact ( compact ) [2] .
In 2015, the Belfast Telegraph editors launched a new magazine called Family Life [3] .
Currently, the newspaper is available in two versions: Belfast Telegraph and North West Telegraph (the latest version of the newspaper is distributed in Derry ). In recent years, the circulation of the newspaper has greatly decreased: from 109 thousand in 2002 [4] to 36 thousand in 2017 [5] .
Awards
The Belfast Telegraph was recognized as the best UK regional newspaper in 2012 at the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards. The newspaper was noted for "strong, clean design, excellent photos and impressive appearance", which generally made it "excellent reading" [6] .
